01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
A meal at 麺屋 周郷 神田店 begins the moment you dip neatly folded, glossy thick noodles into the concentrated, seafood-rich dipping broth. Thick and robust, the broth maintains a refined balance despite its heavy richness, clinging readily to the firm noodles. Noodle portions can be customized to small (150 g), medium (200 g), or large (250 g), accommodating both lighter appetites and hearty cravings.
The satisfaction of the bowl is elevated by its carefully prepared assortment of toppings. Even the standard tsukemen comes garnished with three distinct chashu cuts—pork shoulder, pork belly, and chicken breast—alongside two varieties of menma and nori, while the special (tokusei) tsukemen presents these toppings with a simmered egg in a more lavish bowl. Comparing the contrasting textures and savory depths of each cut as you eat is one of tsukemen's particular pleasures.
Aromatic Variations and a Satisfying Finish
Midway through the bowl, it is well worth exploring tabletop seasonings such as budo sansho oil and Sichuan pepper. Introducing a touch of refreshing tingling spice or citrus-tinged aroma brings a brisk depth to the dense soup, keeping the flavor vibrant through the final bite. Once the noodles are finished, soup-wari is available, rounding off the meal with warm dashi broth accompanied by condiments and a bite-sized serving of rice (wari-meshi).
The interior is a calm space focused around counter seating, making it comfortable to concentrate on your meal even when dining alone. Payment is cash only, and the shop also sells special tsukemen and chashu as souvenirs, making it a fitting choice when seeking a deeply flavorful bowl in the Kanda area.
